Residency for International Artists

The Hamburg Authority for Culture and the Media announced four three-month residences from January 2021 to December 2021 in the Westwerk artists’ house in Hamburg.
The residence is a living and working scholarship that requires the living and presence of the artists in the Westwerk and serves both to work on an artistic project and to network with the Hamburg cultural scene.
Rent-free provision of the 68m large residential apartment (1 large room with a separate, simply furnished living / work area, kitchen and shared bathroom) with WiFi.
The authority for culture and media takes over the rent of the residences and pays an additional flat rate of 800 euros per month as well as the travel expenses for the return trip. The grants are intended for individuals.
Westwerk e.V. takes care of the respective scholarship holder. The Westwerk is an open artist house with regular art and music events. This enables contacts, among other things. also on the Hamburg art scene.
The scholarship holders must take out health and liability insurance at their own expense for the duration of their stay; Residence permits / visas may also have to be obtained from the scholarship holders.
In addition, the artists receive a one-off grant of 500 euros per stay for the costs of carrying out and organizing a final presentation. The location and format of a final presentation will be agreed with the Westwerk. Smaller exhibitions, media-based presentation of the artistic work within a public event are just as conceivable as lectures, work presentations, artist talks in the bar room or possibly in the hall and are supported by the Westwerk.
Application documents
Applications must be submitted in German or English and should contain the following documents:
    Informal cover letter with contact details (max. 1 A4 page)
    Motivation letter with project sketch (max. 2 DIN A 4 pages)
    Tabular CV
    Proof of private liability insurance
    Evidence of artistic work, max. 5 MB (photos, catalogs, press, website, CD-ROMs etc.).
Information about the desired period of stay:
A) January 1 – March 31, 2021
B) April 1 – June 30, 2021
C) July 1 – September 30, 2021
D) October 1 – December 31, 2021
Deadline :  August 15, 2020.
Applications can be submitted at any time. The jury usually meets once a year.
Who can enter ?
Professional international artists residing abroad from the fields of fine arts, photography, film, who are interested in the Hamburg ultural scene and would like to network culturally in Hamburg can apply for the scholarships
